How we compare and review

Where our prices, fees and rules come from, how often we review them, and what we do not do.

Where the information comes from

  • Prices. Live prices come from the booking engine on each page when you search. Prices written in our guides ("from A$39/day", typical totals) are indicative examples, last checked November 2026. They change with dates, season and availability.
  • Fees and conditions. One-way fees, young-driver fees, airport surcharges, excess, deposit, fuel and kilometre rules come from the rental suppliers' published terms and from the conditions shown at booking.
  • Driving rules. Toll, licence and road information comes from state and territory road authorities and toll operators, together with supplier terms for what a rental car may be used for.
  • Locations. Desk and depot information comes from airport operators and suppliers. Supplier line-ups change, so check your voucher for the exact desk.

Review dates

Guides and FAQ answers show when they were last reviewed. We review the main airport and city guides at least every quarter, and sooner when a supplier or airport changes. If we cannot confirm something, we say so and point you to your rental conditions.

How the cost calculator works

The real cost calculator adds a typical daily rate for the car type, an airport surcharge of about 12% of the base rental for airport pick-ups, a young-driver fee (about A$25 a day for drivers aged 21 to 24, A$35 a day for 18 to 20), a typical one-way fee (about A$150 between nearby cities, A$350 capital to capital, A$600 for long distances) and fuel or charging for the distance you enter. These are estimates for planning, not quotes.

Ratings and reviews

We publish customer reviews only from travellers who booked a rental through us. We do not write reviews ourselves, pay for reviews or remove negative reviews. Where a supplier does not yet have enough reviews, its page says "Not yet rated".

How we make money

We earn a commission when you book through our search. It does not change your price and does not change the order of results: they are sorted by total price unless you choose another sort. No supplier pays to appear on a page or to be described more favourably.
