What to know before you pick up the keys.
Driving in Gold Coast

Tolls
Brisbane motorways and tunnels are cashless toll roads.
Rental restrictions
Beach driving and flooded crossings are commonly excluded. Rental cars are usually not allowed on K’gari.
What to check in your Thrifty Gold Coast conditions
The terms that change the total most often.
Fuel policy
Check whether the car is full-to-full or pre-paid fuel. Pre-paid fuel is usually dearer than refuelling yourself.
Excess and insurance
Standard cover has an excess you pay if the car is damaged. Compare reducing the excess with the supplier against third-party cover.
One-way fees
Dropping the car in a different city can add a fee. See our one-way guides before you choose a route.
Young and additional drivers
Drivers under 25 and extra drivers often cost more per day. Confirm the amounts at booking.
Tolls and fines
Tolls and fines are passed on by the supplier, often with an admin fee. Ask how tolls are billed.
Deposit
A card deposit is normally held at pick-up and released after return. Check the amount and the card types accepted.
One-way trips from Gold Coast
Ask whether Thrifty allows your drop-off city; any one-way fee is shown before you book.
Thrifty Gold Coast questions
Short answers. Details depend on your booking.
Where can I collect a Thrifty rental car in Gold Coast?
Search Gold Coast Airport, the city centre or a suburban depot. Your voucher shows the exact Thrifty desk or depot address and opening hours.
Is Thrifty cheaper at Gold Coast Airport or in the city?
It depends on the dates. Airport pick-ups can include a location fee, so compare the Thrifty total for both before you choose.
Can I return a Thrifty car from Gold Coast in another city?
Often yes, as a one-way rental where Thrifty has a location at your drop-off. Any fee is shown in the total.
What do I need to collect a Thrifty car in Gold Coast?
A full licence held for at least a year, a credit card in the main driver’s name and your voucher. Carry an International Driving Permit if your licence is not in English.
How are tolls charged on a Thrifty rental in Gold Coast?
Brisbane motorways and tunnels are cashless toll roads. Ask Thrifty how tolls are billed and whether an admin fee applies.
